1.0 General
DriveUpgrade-tool helps users to replace old drives with new ABB drives. The
input data is given in white fields. The yellow fields contain data from the
database and/or data entered by the user. The red fields contain important
messages to the user e.g. if the input data is contradictory, the tool gives
"Data conflict" message and informs, which data is in question and
what is the value of the data that has been used for dimensioning.
2.0 Selection methods
Selection can be based on the type code of the existing drive or type code
and additional technical information.
2.1 Selection based on the type code of
the existing drive
User selects the type code of the existing drive from the selection box and
presses "Select replacement drive" pushbutton. Program gets all the
necessary data for the existing drive from the database and uses this data
for selecting the replacements drives.
2.2 Selection based on type code and
additional technical information
If the existing drive is known and it is listed in the selection box, but it
is e.g. not fully loaded, it is possible to optimise the selection of the new
drive by filling in also the "Additional technical information"
fields. User selects the type code of the existing drive and enters also the
known technical data (= load information). Program reads the data of the
existing drive from the database and compares this data to the additional
technical data. If there is a conflict between these sets of data (e.g. the
required load current is higher than allowed for the existing drive), an
additional "Data conflict" column will be shown in the "New
drive information" table. This column tells which data is not valid. If
there is no conflict, the "additional technical information" is
used in the dimensioning.
3.0 Load types
The program allows four different load types to be used in dimensioning. Each
type uses different data fields from the database and also the output tables
have different output fields depending on the selected load type.
3.1 Constant, no overload
This is the default setting in the
program. It is used for constant torque and constant current (load torque
stays constant at different speeds) applications that do not need any
momentary overloadability.
When this load type is selected, the
program uses the highest continuous constant ratings of the drives in
dimensioning. The program checks only the maximum continuous current it must
be bigger or equal in the new drive compared to the existing drive.
3.2 Constant 110% overload 1 min
This is otherwise similar load type
as "Constant, no overload", but it allows 10% overload for 1
minute. I.e. if the maximum continuous current is 100 A, the drive can give
110 A for 1 min. and return to 100 A.
When this load type is selected, the
program uses the highest constant rating that allows the momentary 110 %
loadability in dimensioning. The program checks both the maximum continuous
current and the maximum 1 min. overload current. Both currents must be bigger
or equal in the new drive compared to the existing drive.
3.3 Constant 150% overload 1 min
This is otherwise similar load type
as "Constant 110% overload 1 min", but it allows 50% overload for 1
minute instead of 10%. I.e. if the maximum continuous current is 100 A, the
drive can give 150 A for 1 min. and return to 100 A. Examples of applications
requiring such high overloadability are e.g. different cyclical loads such as
batch centrifuges, some extruders and mixers and applications requiring high
starting torque/current.
When this load type is selected, the
program uses the highest constant torque rating that allows the momentary 150
% loadability in dimensioning. The program checks both the maximum continuous
current and the maximum 1 min. overload current. Both currents must be bigger
or equal in the new drive compared to the existing drive.
3.4 Pump&Fan
This load type is used for squared
torque loads (i.e. torque increases proportional to the square of the speed).
Typical applications are centrifugal pumps and fans. When this load type is
selected, the program uses Pump&Fan ratings of the drives in
dimensioning. The program checks both the maximum continuous current and the
maximum 1 min. overload current. Both currents must be bigger or equal in the
new drive compared to the existing drive.
4.0 Select from
It is possible to refine the search
by giving additional features that are required from the new drive. The
existing drive does not have to fulfil the criteria.
4.1 Stand alone / Module
The default settings is stand
alone, but if the drive should e.g. be built into customer specific cabinet,
it is possible to specify that the new drive must be a module. If drive type
is selected to be a module, the program searches only wall mounted drives and
modules. Cabinet built units are excluded. On the other hand, when
"stand alone" is selected, the program excludes the modules.
4.2 6-pulse / 12-pulse
The default setting is 6-pulse, but
if a 12-pulse solution is needed to get lower harmonics, it can be specified
here. If drive type is selected to be a 12-pulse one, the program excludes
all 6-pulse ones. On the other hand, when "6-pulse" is selected,
the program excludes the 12-pulse drives.
Please note that 12-pulse drives need a
special 12-pulse transformer and 12-pulse option and regeneration cannot be
selected at the same time.
4.3 Non-regenerative / Regenerative
The default setting is
non-regenerative, but if energy regeneration back to supply network is
needed, it is specified here. If drive type is selected to be a
"regenerative", the program excludes all non-regenerative ones. On
the other hand, when "non-regenerative" is selected, the program
excludes the regenerative drives.
Please note that regeneration and 12-pulse
option cannot be selected at the same time.
5.0 Output tables
After clicking the "Select
replacement" pushbutton, program creates two tables on the html-page.
The first table ("Used dimensioning data") contains the information
of the existing drive that has been used in the dimensioning. The second
table (“New drive information”) contains multiple rows. The table shows the
different suggestions for replacing the existing drive.
The suggested replacement drives are
selected so that at least two suggestions are given from each product family
fulfilling the selection criteria: next drive that is equal or bigger than
the existing drive and next drive that is smaller. If overloadability is
required, the same is done both for the continuous current and the overload
current.
5.1 Dim. criteria
The "Dim. criteria" field
tells, what have been the selection criteria. E.g. "Next bigger In"
means that the drive has been selected so that its continuous current has
been bigger or equal to the existing drive or to the load current.
5.2 Diff.(%)
The "Diff.(%)" shows what
is the margin. E.g. 10% means that the rated value is 10% bigger than
required and – 20% that the rated value is 20% smaller than required. If the
value is smaller, the difference value is shown in red.
6.0 Technical data comparison
By clicking the drive you want to
select, you can see a technical data comparison between the existing and the
new drive. Voltage, selected rated and overload currents and of the other
data only the data with different values is shown.
If the whole technical data including other
rated currents and even the similar and non critical data should be compared,
it is shown, when pushing the "Show all data" pushbutton.
